The ignition system has several circuits generating sparks and operating independently, ie. one circuit for each cylinder of the engine. Each circuit contains an ignition transformer and a switching device actuated by the engine in series with the transformer primary. With the switch closed, current is stored in the primary, while the switch opening results in a spark generation. The transformer secondary is connected to the respective spark plug without incorporating a distributor. The circuit from the secondary to the spark plug has a one-way current conducting elements, preventing spark generation on the switching device closing. Preferably the one-way current conducting elements may be formed by four-layer diodes, or alternately by one or several diodes which have a parallel spark gap for their protection.
|
