1511572 Coated fabrics MINNESOTA MINING & MFG CO 10 July 1975 [11 July 1974] 29113/75 Heading B2E [Also in Division C3] Fabrics of natural or synthetic fibres are coated with a composition comprising an aqueous or non aqueous liquid medium and a hybrid tetracopolymer consisting essentially of:- 40-70% by weight of "fluorinated organic radical-containing" methacrylate, 5- 15% by weight of lower alkyl acrylate or lower alkyl methacrylate in which the lower alkyl group contains 1-4 carbon atoms, 20- 30% by weight of polyoxyethylene acrylate or polyoxyethylene acrylate, and 5-15% by weight of polyoxypropylene acrylate, polypropylene methacrylate, polyoxytetramethylene acrylate or polyoxytetramethylene methacrylate, the composition being applied in an amount sufficient to provide 0.02-1% by weight of the treated fabric of carbonbonded fluorine in the form of fluorinated organic radicals on said fabric. The term "fluorinated organic radical" is defined as a fluorinated, saturated, monovalent, non- aromatic organic radical of at least 3 carbon atoms which may be straight branched or cyclic and may be interrupted by divalent oxygen atoms or trivalent nitrogen atoms bonded only to carbon atoms. In the specific Examples describe the coating of 50/50 cotton/linen, cotton and polyester fabric with a coating composition containing a tetracopolymer of N-methyl perfluorooctanesulphonamido-butyl acrylate, ethyl acrylate, polyoxyethylene methacrylate and polyoxytetramethylene methacrylate which is in admixture when coating the cotton fabrics with a copolymer of N - methylperfluorooctanesulphonamidoethyl acrylate and butyl acrylate and polyester fabrics with a coating composition containing a tetracopolymer of N - methylperfluorooctanesulphonamidobutyl acrylate with a) butyl acrylate, polyoxyethylene methacrylate and polyoxytetramethylene methacrylate or b) ethyl acrylate, polyoxyethylene methacrylate and polyoxypropylene acrylate or a tetracopolymer of N - butyl perfluorooctanesulphonamido ethyl acrylate, ethyl acrylate, polyoxyethylene methacrylate and polyoxypropylene acrylate.
|
