1511742 Coated particles RAYCHEM CORP 9 May 1975 [10 May 1974] 48593/77 Divided out of 1511741 Headings B2E and B2L An electrically conductive particle having a diameter not exceeding 20Á is coated by applying thereto a solvent-free polymer, thereby rendering coated conductive particles free-flowing an non-agglomerative, but without loss of conductivity when dispersed in a suitable binder. Preferably the particle material is carbon coated using a fluid energy mill wherein a mixture of carbon and polymer particles (or a preblended mix) is fed into a hopper 2, injected into a chamber 6 and prepelled round the chamber by a fluid stream injected through inclined nozzles 10 Repeated particle collisions cause coating, with suitable coated particles settling out through outlets 14 and 16. Suitable polymers are polyethylene, ethylene/propylene copolymer, polypropylene, polyisobutylene, polyvinylidene fluoride, P.T.F.E., polychlorotrifluoroethylene, tetrafluoroethylene/hexafluoropropylene copolymers, P.V.C., vinyl chloride copolymers, polyvinylidene chloride, silicones, polyacrylates, polymethacrylates, polyamides, polyesters, polyimides, polycarbonates, polyethers, polyketones, polystyrene, copolymers of styrene, homo- and co-polymers of vinyl acetate, polysulphones, polyacrylonitrile, polyoxymethylene, polyurethanes, polyamines, polybutadiene, butadiene copolymers, polyisoprene and neoprene. |
