The junction box comprises two shells which are thermoplastic mouldings, and which have the cable entries formed into the ends of the shells. To improve the rigidity of the body section (3) of each shell a series of radial ribs (4) is included in the moulding. Typically the ribs are external, but designs with internal rib stiffeners can also be employed. The shells may be held together with two bolts (15), one at each end. Typically labyrinth type seals are used on the joint flanges to give a good seal between shells. It is advantageous to bow the long mating faces (21) to assist in ensuring a good fit over the whole length of the box.
