The ancillary unit is used for stereoscopic rangefinding and consists of an attachment which can be mounted on the binocular body (1) and has two parallel collimators (4) in the image plane of which cross-line grids (7) are arranged which have marks that appear bright when viewed directly at a specific range. The two collimators (4) are rigidly connected to one another by connecting rods (5). The collimator openings are smaller than the lens openings of the binoculars and the spacing (b) of the collimator axes is approximately equal to the spacing of the optical axes of the binoculars. <IMAGE>
