1511685 Mould lining TOYO KOHAN CO Ltd 29 July 1975 31748/75 Heading CIM A mould for making glass articles has a metal shell and a lining, 40-3000Á thick, of a glass or ceramic having a melting point above 400‹ C. and a thermal conductivity no higher than 0À005 J cm.-' sec.-' ‹K-', the lining having a porosity of 30-70%. The lining material may be hollow glass powder with a particle size of up to 200Á or a porous enamel (e.g. a pasty enamel made porous by the inclusion of TiH 2 ). An alternative lining is a laminate comprising a layer 40-3000 Á thick of a material with a conductivity no higher than 0À005 J cm.-' sec.-' ‹K-', against the metal mould and a 30-70% porous layer 40-1000Á thick of a metal, glass or ceramic with a melting point above 400‹C. The insulating layer may be diatomaceous earth in a heat resistant resin and the porous layer may be sintered metal or ceramic (e.g. with a particle size up to 200 Á). The mould may be used in blow moulding goblets, electric light bulbs or cups. |
