A bottle filling machine has a lifting system with an overhead disc rotor (1) alongside a ring of filling valves, each centering a head (4) on a filling tube (5). A bottle support (28) under each valve is attached to a lifting mechanism which includes a cylinder (22) carrying a bracket (27) for the support (28). The cylinder houses a piston (12) with a piston rod (7) at the top and another (13) underneath. From the cylinder also extends an arm (29) with a sleeve (30) at its end which slides along a vertical tube (18) in turn supported at the bottom on an arm (19) attached to the bottom of the lower piston rod (13). The tube (18) is attached at the top to an inner carrier ring (21).
