Verification of signature on identity card - uses digital comparison of optical reading of hand written signature and magnetically stored data

An automatic checking station provides verification that the handwritten signature on an identity card corresponds in every respect with that indicated by a magnetic recording strip on the card. The identity card (5) is roller fed (6) past two readily stations; one using optical sensing of the handwritten signature (2) and a magnetic pick up for recorded data. The reflected signals from light beams (1) are transmitted over logic to coding and decoding stations (7, 10) controlled by dock generators (8, 9). Outputs (14, 15) carry signals indicating acceptance or rejection of the card.
