The mining machine has a rotary drum cutter mounted on a swinging arm, the connection including a ring (6) which can be slid along the shaft on which the drum is mounted. The ring has its face towards the drum clamped by bolts (16) onto the flange (14) of an adaptor by means of an external collar (15). This flange engages a nose (11) extending outwards with its tapered end fitting into a collar (12) fitted inside the boss (3) of the cutting drum. The inner face of the ring (6) has a T-section ring (25) which fits inside the end of a piston (26) which travels inside a double acting hydraulic cylinder by means of which the ring is pushed to and fro. The adaptor ring (14) has curved teeth (18) around its interior which mesh with teeth (20) on the outside of the nose (11).
