Food display and vending counter - has fluorescent strip lights with refrigerant ducts incorporated in inverted U-shaped shades

The combined vending counter and display unit for food, e.g pastries, has cooled lamp-shades (11). The arrangement obviates the deterioration of food due to the heat emitted by electric lamps. The counter has horizontal shelves (9) and a fluorescent lighting tube (12) is mounted (8, 16) to run longitudinally along each shelf soffit. The shade is of an inverted 'U' section and placed between the shelf and the lighting tube. Longitudinal ducts (21) are either built in or appended to the shade section. The ducts are integrated in the circuit of a refrigerating unit.
