<p>Benzene is purified by (a) continuously supplying the impure benzene to a distillation column, (b) continuously supplying acetone to the column at a lower level than the benzene inlet the distance between the two inlets being at least 10 theoretical plates, (c) removing acetone with the impurities as the top product, and (d) discharging benzene with a lower impurity content as bottom product. Used for purifying aromatic fractions obtained by reforming and/or cracking, which contain non-aromatic hydrocarbons in addition to benzene. More efficient purification of the benzene is obtained. Benzene with a C6+ non-aromatics content of less than 0.2% wt. can be obtained from crude benzene initially containing 6.7% wt.</p> |
