A standpipe 14 has a ring 13 provided with packing ring 22 and plate 18, the ring 13 being biased by a spring 39 towards an annular flange 6 to form a valve The other end of the standpipe is closed by a cover and fitted with a stop ring 26. At the top of the tank, an annular flange 5 has a ring 44 provided with a threaded sleeve 42, a further threaded sleeve 40 being engaged with the sleeve 42. The sleeve 40 is attached to the spokes 51 of a hand wheel 52, and to an adjustable ring 38. To remove contents at the bottom, a spout 21 is bolted on to flange 6, and the hand wheel 52 is rotated until ring 54 on the ring 38 abuts ring 53 on the stop ring 26, whereupon further turning lifts the bottom valve from the flange 6. To remove contents at the top, a plate (not shown) replaces spout 21, a hose (not shown) is connected to stop ring 26 in place of the cover, and the plate 18 is replaced by a ring 25. Raising the standpipe by the hand wheel enables the contents to be forced or drawn up the standpipe 14 and out through the hose. |
