1,129,933. Winding webs. E. I. DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO. 13 March, 1967 [15 March, 1966], No. 11676/67. Heading B6B. Web slitting and rewind apparatus comprises a driven roller 10, a supply roll 12 movable in parallel guides 14, 14<SP>1</SP> and urged into contact with the roller 10 by spring or pneumatic means 16, and at least one rewind mandrel 22, driven by a constant torque motor 34, similarly movable in parallel guides and urged into contact with the roller 10, and adapted to support a plurality of rolls 31. Longitudinal slitting knives 30 co-operate with the roller 10, which is preferably coated with rubber and provided with a circumferential groove for each knife. To accommodate variable web thickness, and therefore possibly differing roll diameters, the core of each web-roll 31 is mounted with a resilient rubber bushing (37, Fig. 2) on the mandrel 22. Spacers (35) which may be empty cores are positioned between each web-roll 31. The supply roll 12 is braked by a disc 18 and stationary brake-pads 19. In an alternative embodiment (Fig. 4) the longitudinally slit web is wound on to a plurality of rolls mounted on one spindle, very narrow widths of web between the major width being withdrawn by vacuum ducts (41 and 42). |
