Polyester filaments and fibres contg. empty spaces have a water retention capacity of 12-25%. They are made by introducing into the polymer to be spun 0.1-4.0 wt. % on the total mixt. of a silicate charged with inert gas. The mixt. is melt spun by the known method. Polyester filaments and fibres suffer from a low capacity of water absorption and a tendency to static charge generation, which makes them uncomfortable to wear. In normal climates they absorb no more than 0.5% water. The empty spaces in the claimed fibres enable this to be greatly increased. The inert gas with which the silicate is charged ensure that the molten polyester is not degraded.
|
