Use of n-substd e-caprolactam to separate - hydrocarbon mixtures

Hydrocarbon mixtures e.g. n-hexane and benzene are separated by selective extraction and/or distillation using N-substituted epsilon-caprolactam e.g. N-(B-cyanethyl) epsilon-caprolactam as selective solvent. The caprolactam may be used with e.g. 15-40 vol.% water or ethylene glycol.
