The skate board for use on hard snow or ice has a rectangular shape with a semi-circular end. The board is wide enough for the user to place both feet on the flat surface (3) which is surrounded by a raised edge (14). The underside of the board is formed by two inclined surfaces separated by a shallow central longitudinal groove. The user steers the board by changing the distribution of his weight from one side of the board to the other and consequently sliding on one or other or both of the inclined surfaces. The board is preferably made of polyurethane.
