Mfr. of castings esp. high-quality electric components e.g. insulators, by pressure gelling casting comprises using a very rapidly reacting casting resin in a vacuum chamber, under strongly reduced pressure, in a thin-walled mould and then effecting the post-pressurising and compacting (typical of pressure gelling processes) of the still-deformable resin by equalising the pressure of the vacuum chamber with the outside atmosphere. Enables thin-walled, hence inexpensive, mould to be used. The prods. have accurate measurements and high mechanical and electrical strength. Void and crack formation is minimised. Castings are easily removed from mould.
