A fixture for the holding and revolving of a workpiece during an etching operation includes a hollow sphere, supported in a ball joint. A revolving hollow spindle enters it from below tih a spindle head which drives it through drive pins in engagement with vertical grooves on the inside wall of the hollow sphere. A roller which runs along a groove on the outside of the hollow sphere describes with its radial, which intersects the spindle axis, an angle, different from 90 degrees, with the latter. This provides a gastight seal through the drive mechanism without obstructing the necessary tumbling motion of the workpiece.
