Light-weight rear subframe for car - has tubular trailing arms linked by torsion axle with welds

The rear subframe has a transverse torsion rod (3) axle with rigid trailing arms (2) fitted to each end, having the wheels mounted at the ends. The torsion rod passes through prepared holes through the trailing arms and is welded on both the inlet and outlet sides of the trailing arms. The reinforcing gussets (4), which stabilise the angle between the torsion axle and the trailing arms are welded to the axle with one end, and have extension tags which are taken through the holes in the trailing axle and secured with the same welds. The design of welds prevents damage from wear and vibration. No additional lateral stabilisers are required.
