A coin magazine for use by a cashier has a number of open channels into which are located coins of a specific denomination. The open container has a semi-circular channel (1) that receives coins end on (3). A number of swde slits (5) along the length of the channel allows a partition to be inserted. A centre conductor (19) coupled to segmented sensors (17, 8) along the channel provide signals for integrated circuitry built into a display module (7). The latter plugs directly onto the end of the magazine to provide an indication of the total value of coils in the unit.
