<p>A flame-resistant moulding compsn. contains (a) a mixt. of polyphenylene oxide and polystyrene, or (b) a polyphenylene oxide reinforced with glass fibres, and (c) a brominated aromatic cpd. and (d) an Sb cpd. Pref. the Br cpd. is esp. benzene with >=3 Br atoms, or diphenyl, diphenyl ether, diphenyleoxide, terphenyl or phenoxydiphenyl, each with >=6 Br atoms, and opt. with 1-3C alkyl, F, or Cl substits. In partic., the cpd. has formula C6R5-(CH2)x-Y-(CH2)x1-C6R5, (where >=6 R gps. are Br and the rest are 1-3C alkyl, H, F or Cl; x and x1 = 1-6; and Y is O or S). The Sb cpd. has a synergistic effect on the Br cpd. Injection moulded or extruded goods have good strength, dimensional stability and electrical properties. The compsns. are esp. used in the electronic, electrotechnical and aircraft industries.</p> |
