Protected operating equipment is for a winding machine winding web material such as textile or paper. The web is fed over a winding roller on a winding drum and the winding roller is pressed on the circumferential surface of the winding drum. In front of the entry slot between the winding roller and the winding drum is positioned a contact bar which is adjustable relatively to the winding drum surface. When the contact bar is contacted it activates an emergency switch to stop the winding machine. Connected with the contact bar is at least one remote sensing device facing the winding drum and operating a control switch. The control outlet of the control switch acts to maintain a constant distance and activates a positioning cylinder supporting the contact bar against the machine frame.
