Grip link unit for snow chain - is manufactured with widened flange for grip in soft ground with minimum application of twisting moment

The snow chain has a series of grip links (8) arranged in a pattern between horizontal rings, and with grip edges (9) on the side away from the tread. The grip edges are positioned under a widened flange (11, 13) around the grip link and forming a secondary grip surface for use in soft ground. The secondary surface has a diamond plan view, with rounded corners. The bottom grip edge is smoothly contoured into the secondary edge so that drag is reduced in soft ground, and the chain links do not suffer twisting when dragged through soft ground. A second flange surface can be provided on the tread side of the link (25) to improve the anti-twist property.
