A polyurethane foam with permanent flame resistance contains a halo-phenyl bromoacetate as flame repellent component. Claimed additives are tribromophenyl, pentabromophenyl or dichloro-tribromophenyl bromoacetate. The amt. is 5-50(5-30)wt.%, w.r.t. the polyol. The bromo acetate is dissolved in the polyol at 90 degrees C. Known synergists, e.g., diethyl N,N-bis-(2-hydroxyethyl)-aminomethyl phosphonate (I) may be present in the foam. The foam retains its self-extinguishing properties in water or on heating, e.g., after 10 days in water at 80 degrees C, or after 22 hrs. at 140 degrees C. |
