1511246 Making S G iron MATERIALS & METHODS Ltd 16 April 1975 [29 April 1974] 18657/74 Addition to 1278265 Heading C7D [Also in Division B3] S.G. iron is produced by causing the iron to pass, on its way to the mould cavity, through one or more intermediate chambers located within the mould block and containing modularizing agent. The total area of the bases of the chambers is defined by the product of metal pouring rate, total concentration of modularizing agent in the iron expressed as a proportion of the weight of the latter, and a predetermined parameter respresenting the rate at which the agent is taken into solution. The preferred agents are alloys containing 6% or 9% Mg with a Mg: Ca ratio of < 9. |
