1511448 Solid carrier with sodium aluminate layer KALI-CHEMIE AG 18 June 1976 [19 June 1975] 25409/76 Headings C1A and C1C [Also in Division B2] A solid carrier of grain size 0À1-100Á supporting a layer of sodium aluminate, wherein the weight of the layer is 0À5-50% by weight of the carrier, has water-softening properties. Suitable carriers include kieselguhr, silica gel, clays, cellulose, cellulose derivatives, synthetic polymers, aluminium silicates and synthetic ion exchangers. The carrier may be treated with sodium aluminate solution of concentration 0À02-25 wt. per cent, and molar ratio Na 2 O: Al 2 O 3 of 0À3-1000, dried at 20-120‹C to a residual moisture content of 5-30 wt. per cent, or aluminium oxide or hydroxide carrier may be treated with 1-50 wt. per cent sodium hydroxide and dried at 20-120‹C. to a residual moisture content of 5-30 wt. per cent, wherein the carrier has a grain size of 0À1-100Á or the resulting material is brought to this size. |
