PROCESS FOR THE DYEING OF SYNTHETIC FIBERS

1450399 Dyeing process HOECHST AG 12 Sept 1973 [22 June 1973] 42837/73 Heading D1L A process for dyeing textile material of synthetic fibres comprises placing the material in wound form into a dyeing vessel, deaerating the vessel and filling it with saturated or superheated steam and forcing a dyeing liquor containing one or more water-insoluble disperse dyestuffs rapidly into the dyeing vessel from a dyebath vessel which is maintained at a pressure higher than dyeing vessel. Preferably the difference in pressure between the two vessel is 5 to 10 atmospheres gauge and is produced by pressurised steam, compressed air or a pump or by partially evacuating, or condensing the steam in the dyeing vessel. The transfer time is suitably between 3 and 60 seconds and both the dyeing vessel and the liquor in the dyebath vessel are heated to a temperature of 110‹-145‹C before transference. After liquor transfer the dyebath is circulated through the wound textile material in the conventional manner until exhaustion dyeing is completed. The textile material may be pretreated with a mixture containing 85 wt.% perchloroethylene and 15 wt.% of an emulsifier (suitably a mixture of the calcium salt of tetra-propylene-benzene sulphonic acid and the reaction product of 1 mole castor oil and 36 moles of ethylene oxide). Examples relate to the dyeing of textured polyamide and polyester and fabric produced therefrom.
