Geminal prostaglandins (P.G.'s) are synthesized which are represented by the general formula: <IMAGE> where A is a 4 or 5 carbon atom ring-completing group (CH2)1+m-X-(CH2)z where m = 0, 1 or 2, Z = 0 OR 1, 0<(M + Z)<3, AND X is -CH2-CH2-, -CH2-CHOH-, <IMAGE> and, when m = 0 and z = 1, is also -CH=CH- or <IMAGE> Y is divalent straight chain alkylene of 4 to 8 carbon atoms or -CH2CH=CH(CH2)3-; R is alkyl of 4 to 7 carbon atoms; Q is -CO2H or -CH2OH provided that it is not -CH2OH when X = <IMAGE> or Y-Q taken together may be heptyl or allyl.
