<p>1436500 Cationic azo dyestuffs derived from 2-amino benzothiazoles MONTEDISON SpA 27 Aug 1974 [29 Aug 1973] 37408/74 Heading C4P Novel dyestuffs of the formula (wherein R is H, halogen, C 1-4 alkyl or C 1-4 alkoxy; R 1 is C 1-4 alkyl or aralkyl; R 2 is H, halogen or C 1-4 alkyl; R 3 is C 1-4 alkyl, hydroxyalkyl, alkoxyalkyl, acyloxyalkyl, halo-alkyl, cyano-alkyl or aralkyl, R 4 <SP>+</SP> is a quaternary nitrogen group;- and X- is an anion) are prepared by coupling a diazotized 2-aminobenzothiazole with an amine of the formula and then quaternizing the nitrogen atom in the thiazole ring of the resulting dyestuff with an alkylating agent. Suitable quaternary nitrogen groups include In an alternative procedure the diazotized 2- aminobenzthiazole is coupled with an amine of the formula and the product is condensed with a tertiary amine to give the dyestuffs to be quaternized in the thiazole ring as above.
