摘要 1408262 Puffing grain; tenderizing meat J VAN TILBURG 20 July 1972 [20 July 1971 18 Dec 1971] 34025/71 and 58894/71 Headings A2Q and A2U [Also in Divisions B5 C3 and Dl] A fibrous or filamentary material (e.g. rice, corn or meat) may be expanded and thereby tenderized by continuously feeding it through a pressure zone defined by a pair of opposed surfaces at least one of which is continuously moving to continuously advance the material through the zone, maintaining the advancing material in the zone in contact with a puffing agent e.g. steam supplied to the zone separately from the material, and continuously separating the opposed surfaces at the outlet of the pressure zone so that on exit from the zone the pressure on the material reduces and the puffing agent expands to expand the material. In the apparatus shown in Fig. 1 the material to be expanded is fed at 25 between silicone rubber coated drum 2 and flexible steel belt 14. The belt is heated by radiant elements 22. The material re-emerges at 27. In Fig. 2 the material is fed at 25 between silicone rubber belt 30 and steel belt 14. In Fig. 3 two belts 34 and 36 are pressed together by "shoes" 42 and 44, one of which is heated. In Fig. 5 the material is compressed between stationary shoe 50 and rotating drum 46. The drum is covered with silicone rubber. The shoe is lined with polytetrafluoroethylene. The shoe is hollow and is heated internally with steam. Some of the steam escapes via ducts 52a into the pressure zone.
