1-Aminouracil compounds of the formula IN WHICH R1 is an organic radical; R2 represents hydrogen, halogen, the thiocyanate radical, alkyl or optionally substituted aryl, and R3 represents alkyl or aralkyl optionally substituted in the aryl part, or R2 and R3 together represent a multi-membered methylene bridge which forms, with the two carbon atoms in the 5- and 6- positions of the heterocyclic structure, a fused ring which is optionally substituted by alkyl; and agriculturally acceptable salts thereof; ARE OUTSTANDINGLY EFFECTIVE AS HERBICIDES, PARTICULARLY AS BROAD SPECTRUM TOTAL HERBICIDES.
