The television receiver has a removable remote control unit for channel switching and set adjustment, which fits into an opening in the front of the television. A detector for an IR control signal, supplied from the remote control unit, is incorporated in the front of the television, adjacent the opening into which the remote control unit fits. The IR control signal is directed towards the detector via a secondary light path, when the remote control unit is inserted in the opening. The IR control signal is reflected by an internal mirror towards the detector.
