Fibre rovings are mixed together by drafting - in firstly a roller drafting device and secondly a combing device

Fibre rovings of different fibres are mixed by being super-imposed and fed through a drafting device as described in Parent Pat. No. 833734. The superimposed rovings are fed by a single feed device into a first drafting device (1) having two or three sets of rolls (2,3,4) and each set of rolls includes a larger upper roll forming a nip with two smaller lower rolls. From the first drafting device (1) the rovings pass either axially or longitudinally into a second drafting device (5) which has rotary combing rollers to align and mix the fibres of the rovings. Mixing of the fibres of the separate rovings is improved. Pref. driven control rollers contact the rovings to control the speed and are positioned between the sets of rolls (2,3,4) of the first drafting device (1).
