Segmental conductor system of high power transmission cable - forms core by separated sections in cross section forming sectors with expansion gaps

The conductor design for an electrical cable which can be used for high power transmission. It is incorporated in a gas insulated high voltage cable and consists of separate cable conductors. The separate elements which form the core of the cable are located in separate sectors spanning the entire circumference. In cross section they will only occupy a proportion of the area of the sector. There will be gaps (5) between the individual segments (3). This will allow space for expansion and reduce the thermal stresses to negligible amounts. The factor which determines the cross sectional area occupied by the conductor in each sector lies between 0.90 and 0.99.
