The drive piston is actuated by explosion gases alternately generated at its both face surfaces. The gas pressure reciprocates the piston. The gases are generated by explosive cartridges stored in a magazine. In both piston faces (1a, 1b) are provided open cartridge chambers (2, 3). One end forms the cartridge supply and discharge aperture (2a, 3a), while the other end opens via a gas channel (2b, 3b) into a gas explosion chamber (6a, 6b) bounded by the piston housing (6) and the respective piston face. In one piston end position a first cartridge chamber (2) with a cartridge (4a) is opposite a priming device (23) on the piston housing. The second cartridge chamber (3) is coupled by a second magazine channel (9a) to a second magazine (5) with an empty cartridge container (16), in order to provide automatic charging and discharging of explosive cartridges. Similar arrangement is provided for the second piston condition.
