The plate-like ceramic insert (3, 4) is intended for a silencer arranged at the inlet side of a combustion engine or at the outlet side downstream of an after-burner, or for a space ventilation unit. The plate consists of a solid part (3) and a part (4) perforated by narrow ducts of 1 mm or smaller dia, whose length is at least ten times the dia. The plate is contained in an enclosure (13) with an entry orifice (2) facing the solid part of the plate. The plate may be removable. The orifice may face a partition other than the solid part of the insert.
