Machine for hardening radial cams and their counter discs on workpieces held in a rotating clamp. A heater, e.g. a flame burner, and a quenching spray are mounted on a pivot holder fitted on a travelling slide. The clamp is driven synchronously with a holder for a master cam disc on which two scanning rollers run and thus actuated a pivot shaft. The set of levers actuating the shaft include a slotted rail which can be moved and clamped by a screw; in rail is a roller fitted on the end of an arm which moves the slide so the burner flame can be aligned on cam profiles of different size on the workpiece. A hand adjusting knob is pref. employed to adjust the position of the slide. Automatic location of burner w.r.t. a master cam is effected; one master cam can be used for hardening >1 size of cam on the workpiece.
