The generator has a radiation detector (6) which delivers a signal depending on the dose of energy or on the dose behind the object (5). This signal is used for control of the X-ray tube (1). Means are provided for automatic connection of the tube initial current and/or voltage for exposures of a series following the first exposure. The generator has means (12, 13) for storage of the tube current or voltage values produced by the control process. They are used for setting control elements (3, 11).
