A5B Animal feed compositions for promoting the reproductive efficiency of domestic animals and poultry comprises L-3, 4-dihydroxyphenylalanine (L-dopa) or a salt, ester, amide or enamine thereof, together with an animal feedstuff. The compositions may also contain a substance capable of inhibiting the in vivo degradation of L-dopa (e.g. an L-dopa decarboxylase inhibitor such as L-α-hydrazino-3, 4-dihydroxy-α-methyl-#-phenyl propionic acid or N-D, L-seryl-N-(2, 3, 4-trihydroxy benzyl) hydrazine). The invention also relates to methods for enhancing the reproductive efficiency of non-human animals by administering L-dopa or a salt, ester, amide or enamine thereof to the female animal. |
