Swimming shoe for use in and out of water - has apron inserted beneath sole to assist muscle training

The swimming sandal which can assist movement both in water and on land and is of special use to spastic children etc. comprises a water-permeable shoe or sandal which has an apron in the form of a plate of a limited resilience and hardness e.g. 40-60 Shore. This apron can be detachable or integral with the shoe. The swimming sandal can be made of any plastics or rubber-like material wherein the thickness of the sole and the swim plate are variable. The sole pref. consists of a pliable part which assists running on the ground. Between the two parts of the sole (3, 4) there is a groove (2) which is just wide enough to take the apron. A wedge (O) is fitted at the tip of the sandal in the groove so that when walking there is no undue distortion. The end of the apron is fitted with a rubber band which fits tightly in the groove round the heel of the shoe.
