A flexible, pliable elastic support for use e.g. as an orthopaedic cast, is made by interlacing flexible pliable spun filament(s), having a polymerisable organic liquid enclosed within the filament(s) interior, to form a pliable fabric. The fabric can be made rigid, e.g. once in contact with the structure requiring support, by exposing to a source of wave energy.
