The impact drill employs a cutting toll which for certain operations, such as making a channel for embedding electrical wiring in a wall, is only required to move axially. This tool, which may be a bar (12) with a chisel point, has a blind hole (13) at the other end for insertion of a rod (11) for connection to the drill. This rod is free to slide axially inside the blind hole. The connecting rod (11) can pass completely through the chisel bit (12) and project ahead of the cutting portion for use as a boring tool as required.
