1509955 Travelling maintenance units which respond to a signal in open-end machines F STAHLECKER and H STAHLECKER 25 July 1975 [8 Aug 1974] 31290/75 Headings DID D1F and DIN In an open end spinning machine each spinning unit has a thread sensing stopmotion 17 which stops the supply of sliver e.g. by stopping drive to the feed roller 6 or clamping the sliver, a component of the sliver supply device when in an inoperative state being sensed by a detector on a travelling maintenance unit. The function which is sensed may comprise the rotation or non- rotation of the feed rollers or of a member associated therewith. Such an associated member may have magnets disposed about its periphery to give a pulse signal. Alternatively a part located on a sliver clamp or feed roll mount moves into the field of the sensor on the maintenance unit. Also the magnetic field of a clutch in the feed roller drive or a separate magnet in the same circuit may be sensed by the detector. The signal can also be mechanical or optical or e.g. an infra red light emitting diode. The maintenance unit 2 travels on a rail 19 which may be indexed with notches adjacent each spinning station to indicate the position at which a signal should be sought.
