1,235,607. Conductor roller for electro-plating strip. KABEL-UND METALLWERKE GUTEHOFFNUNGSHUTTE A.G. March 18, 1969 [April 29, 1968], No.14181/69. Heading C7B. [Also in Division H2] A metal conductor roller, e. g. a hollow steel body 8, mounted on a shaft 7, for conducting heavy electric currents (8000-9000 amps) to strip passing through one or more electro-plating baths e.g. for the continuous tin coating of steel strip, is provided with an outer skin 16 of higher electrical conductivity, e. g. an electrocoating of copper, chromium or nickel, to the inner surface of which cooling fluid (gas or liquid) is directed to cool the outer surface 9 of the roller, at least in the region that guides the strip, during operation. Preferably the cooling fluid is guided via inlet and outlet apertures 11, 12 in the shaft and connecting C-shaped pipes 14, 15 through two spiral or helical passages 13 in the outer surface 9. The cooling passages may be lined with an electrodeposit of copper to prevent corrosion, or covered over by copper sheet. |
