1290362 Partitions K MECHEL 18 Aug 1969 [16 Aug 1968] 41067/69 Heading E1W A dismantleable partition assembly capable of subsequent reassembly comprises similar sound-absorbing double-skimmed wall units each having two facing panel members 1, 2 bearing L-section brackets 3, one leg 6 of each bracket being attached at the same position to an inner surface of each panel with a portion of that leg extending beyond the panel edge provided with an aperture 8 and the other leg of each bracket extending substantially perpendicular to the plane of the panel with a lug 17 extending substantially horizontally from that leg, the two panels of each wall unit being joined by pins 9 passing through the apertures 8 and the wall units being connected by pins 19 passing through the lugs 17 and openings in a substantially horizontal connecting plate 18, the pin connections being such that interconnection of the partition panels is released by the action of heat in the event of fire; and a cover strip 12 located between the margins of coplanar facing panels and retained by the L-section brackets with resilient sealing members 14, 16 sandwiched into the joints between the panel margins and the cover strips. As shown the wall units form a T-junction, only one cover strip 12 being used, resilient sealing strips 20 being sandwiched between the panels of the stem of the T and adjacent panels and the corresponding L-section brackets. The brackets may also be provided at intervals with apertures from which cupboards or shelves may be suspended by hooks pushed through the seals between cover strips and panels. Electric wiring may be located between the panels of a wall unit or behind the cover strips, the panels being separately removable from the assembly, and the cover strips 12 may support electrical fittings such as a switch. If thinner panels are used the brackets 3 are mounted on the panels as shown in Fig. 3 with their lug-bearing lugs directed towards each other. Where two wall units form a simple corner, a connecting plate is not used and a right-angled corner piece is held in position to cover the outer part of the comer by a spring clip engaging pins 19 in the lugs 17 (Fig. 3 not shown). If a cruciform junction is required the cover strip 12 shown in Fig. 1 is removed and a further wall unit is mounted in its place by means of an adjustable strainer hooking into the central aperture of the plate 18, the two pins 19 shown adjacent the cover strip being omitted (see Fig. 5 not shown). |
