<p>Many rows of rigid links are hinged together as an endless chain which is partly immersed in a current of liquid flowing through an open-topped channel. The rising side of the chain faces the current and collects solids which it carries up clear of the liquid surface. Each link fits on two successive hinge pins and is extended beyond its trailing pin, the extension being cranked at the end outwards from the chain; as each link passes around a sprocket near the bottom of the channel, its extension rises from the flat screen formation for the cranked end to sweep up solids from the bottom; in passing around a top sprocket, each link extension again rises temporarily to discharge collected deposits. The filter is esp. suitable for filtering polluted liq. effluents from factories etc., and water passing along artificial canals.</p> |
