1509946 Electroless plating AMP Inc 11 Sept 1975 [23 Sept 1974] 37339/75 Heading C7F A non-conductive substrate, e.g. polyimide, p.t.f.e. polyethylene terephthalate, polyarylsulphones, polysulphones, polyparabanic acid, polyimide-amine, polyphenylene sulphide, silicon polymers or glass, is electroless plated in the form of a pattern by applying a solution comprising a chelating agent e.g. e.d.t.a. or orthophonanthroline, a dye, and stannous chloride, such that it absorbs light of a wavelength between 3750 and 8000 Š, exposing the solution to light of such a wavelength through a mask to make the exposed area unable to reduce palladium chloride, applying a coating of palladium chloride, and then electroless plating with e.g. Cu, Co, Du or Ni. Polyimide substrates may be pre-treated with caustic soda, fluorocarbons or a solution of Na in naphtha, and glass coated with epoxy resin. |
