<p>1498668 Lirikwork AMP Inc 7 April 1976 [17 April 1975] 15841/75 Heading F2K A rotating cutting drum 11 in a tobacco cutting machine (not shown) is carried by a frame 19 pivotally mounted at a pivot 20 on stationary machine housing plates 32, 34, the frame 19 and hence cutting drum 11 being pivotally moved between the closed position (Fig. 2), shown in full at 19, and on open position (Fig. 2), shown chain-dotted at 50, by a link drive 26, 29 the latter link of which is oscillatably driven by a shaft 40 of a pneumatically driven quadrant actuation 38. The opposite end of shaft 40 carries a gear section 41 which meshes a similar gear section 44 coupled to a return coil spring unit 37. Eccentricallymounted on each gear section 41, 44 is a pin 46 and 47 between which extends a piston and cylinder shock absorber 49 which has a high resistance to contraction as compared to a relatively low resistance to expansion. The arrangement is such that during the initial opening or initial closing movement of the frame 19 and drum 11 via the pneumatic actuation 38 or return spring unit 37 respectively, as the shock absorber is moved from position 49 shown in full (Fig. 2) to position 52 shown chain dotted or vice-versa, the shock absorber 49 is extended and thus offers low resistance to enable a speedy initial opening or initial closing movement to be effected, whilst during the final phase of the opening or closing movement, the shock absorber 49 is compressed to offer high resistance to effectively damp the final phase of movement.</p> |
