the aq. coating compsn., based on aminoplasts or their derivs., ammonium phosphate and other usual additives, is combined with a soln. in an org. solvent of an amine-HCHO resin etherified with a 1-12C alcohol. Coatings are not swollen by moisture or dissolved by condensed water. Compsns. wet smooth surfaces better than prepd. compsns. and are not inflammable like non-aq. compsns. Esp. for coating plastics-sheathed cables and grimed steel. The coatings form thermally insulating foams on exposure to flame.
