In the case of the wheel with a wheel body (29) made of lightweight alloy, a tread (27a) and at least one wheel flange (28), the surface (31) of the tread (27a) is provided with a thermally sprayed-on wear-resistant layer (32) made of ferromagnetic steel and the rail-side surface of the wheel flange (28) adjacent to it is provided with a thermally sprayed-on wear-resistant layer (33) made of ferromagnetic steel or of ceramic. As a result, wear-resistance and the design of a magnetic field for signal controls are obtained. In order to make the degree of wear visible, the wear-resistant layer (32, 33) can be provided with a colour-marking layer (F).
